Counterfeit SOG Knives
by SOG MarketingI just want to put out a warning when buying knives on eBay of other auction sites. We have noticed a couple sellers that are selling counterfeit SOG knives. This is especially true if the knife is shipping China. If a knife price looks too good to be true it most likely is.
So, if you have knife that you are looking at and are unsure of it’s authenticity please feel free to contact us and we will let you know if it appears to counterfeit or not.
Be careful out there.

What is the quage of “too good to be true”?. Most of the Buy it Now Distrib utors seem to be able to sell your products for near half of suggested retail New in Box.

As an example selling a SOG knife or what looks like a SOG for $9.99 from China. That should be a good tip off..

Hi,
Wow! Quick response.
Coincidentally I was looking at ebay just a minute ago and came up with this one:
230116776245 ebay auction number.
If you look in his other items list he has a Flash II I think.
Thanks, Mark Sandretto

Here is another one. ebay url#:

This guy has sold thousands of items with a 99% + rating, but all the stuff seems to be the kind of hardware store item that a shoplifter can nab easily even in the summer in light clothes. I’ve been kind of fascinated by these type sites and refer to them as Shylock (after the Dicken’s character) sites.
It’s almost like someone has taken the fence concept and made it centralized for crackheads.
Is there a place to look for a list of SOG deadlers that can be refered to for ebay use?

Hi,
In referrence too:

I’m sorry about wasting your time, but I noticed that the shipping from this fine ebayer is about $20 in the fine print so he’s getting close to 26.50 for the knife without any competitive bidding. Assuming $2.50 postage.
It’s not a bad price, so please take a look and see if it is real as far as you can tell. I want to get a good knife for every day of the year, but can’t spend too much, because I am in the trail horse business. Horse hoofs, gritty tack and ranch work is not the place for collector’s items. Oh yeah, they get lost, also.

Mark
Thanks for checking in with us about the authenticity of some knives listed on eBay. I have gone through and removed the link the items you had found. I did this because I do not want to drive any traffic there way from the SOG website. Especially the first link that you posted. I hope that you understand. Also, it looks like the listing have been removed for some reason. If you have questions in the future please email us using the contact forms.
Thanks

I’ve often wondered what recourse manufacturers have against knock-off sellers. I understand the basics of patent law, but when a Chinese eBayer is involved, that country doesn’t exactly have a sterling track record of protecting intellectual property.
Regardless, those of us who collect and enjoy quality knives won’t be taken in by the fakes. Over on knifeforums, there are enough ‘experts’ to reveal these criminal sellers for what they are.

I bought a flash 2 from this guy and believed it to be real as it was sold in the US but after closer comparison on the SOG website and this guys product pics found out that it’s a fake and the knife dosn’t even exist with that configuration from SOG.
