Success!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Thanks to everyone’s had work in pressuring Congress the knife community has a great win.  The pending US Customs ruling about assisted opening knives has finally been resolved.

On October 28, 2009 The President has signed the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill (H.R. 2892) for FY 2010 that includes a permanent “fix” so that any folding knife with a bias toward closure cannot be declared a switchblade by U.S. Customs.

Aegis Review

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Just came across a great review of the Aegis knife on Woods Monkey. They did a great job of explaining the features and benefits of knife and they actually used the knife.

These guys seem to know what they are talking about and they liked the Aegis. If you get a chance read the review and check out the rest of their site. There is some good information on there.

New Items

Friday, August 28th, 2009

We just added some new items to the SOG website. Bluto (Red) and Stingray (Stingray).

There is now a Red handle version of the Bluto.  This is a limited edition of only 250 pieces.  It is in stock right now and shipping.

Second is a very special knife, the Stingray with Stingray hide inlay.  We refer to this model as the Stingray Stingray.  It just sort of makes sense and was a slam dunk for us.  This is also a limited edition of 500 pieces and is shipping now.

SOG on Entourage

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Just got word that one of our knives was featured on the HBO show Entourage this weekend. I have a screen capture of the scene with the SOG Tigershark Elite.
Picture 2

In the scene Vince and Turtle are at a local gun shop looking for a gun to protect themselves from a burglar that broke in their house the night before.  They were disappointed to find out that there is 10 day waiting period. As they needed something to protect themselves now.

At that point the guy behind the counter asks “Do you like knives?” and pulls out the Tigershark Elite.

Update:  We got a clip of the scene.  Check it out below.

Mike Stemple Endurance Runner

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

SOG has recently partnered with Mike Stemple, a long distance endurance runner. We are happy to provide him with gear for his adventures. Below is a little info about Mike Stemple and why he carries SOG knife with him. We are working on a short Q&A about why he does what he does and will post it in a few days.  If you want to find more info or to follow his journey visit his blog at IAmNotAfraid.com.

SOG Story:
Mike_Stemple_HeadshotAs an adventure runner who crosses deserts my gear choices are extremely important. We have to carry everything (except extra water & a tent) in our pack to survive a week in some of the most difficult environments on the Earth. I weigh every piece of gear, scrutinize the technical specs, and test each item for maximum effectiveness. My gear choices at best could decide how well I finish, while at worst could cost me my life. Everything I carry has to be the absolute best, my life depends on it.

That is why I carry a SOG Flash I Black TiNi. I was first exposed to SOG as a Combat Medic in the US Army Medical Corps. Being a medic requires you to cut numerous things throughout your long days and nights. Whether it was IV tubing or the top of my MRE, my SOG was indispensable gear. When I decided to become an adventure runner it was an easy choice to choose SOG as part of my “required race kit”. I chose the SOG Flash I Black TiNi for its size to weight ratio, as everything I carry has to be LIGHT! The Flash I also has a feature that is very important when you are tired at the end of the day and have to cut a 1.5 liter bottle in half to make a cooking cup for your dinner, SOG Assisted Technology™. With just one hand and a little push of my thumb outward the cryogenic heat-treated blade snaps open, ready to cut not only my dinner bottle in half but after a quick wipe from a alcohol pad I use it to slice open the ½ dozen or so blisters that form throughout the day. My SOG ranks in the top 5 pieces of required gear, just behind my shoes, cloths, hat, and sunglasses. Thanks SOG for making a great knife.

Change SOG Pocket Clip

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

In our ever continuing quest to provide more and more information on the SOG website we have added two new videos on how to change/replace the pocket clip on a couple of our knives. These videos are specifically for the Twitch XL and Spec Elite/Pentagon Elite but apply to more models.

The Twitch XL also applies to the Flash I & II, Trident, Aegis, X-Ray Vision, Mini X-Ray Vision, Visionary I & II, and Vulcans. The tools needed to remove the clip screw is different on some of these modles so please refer to the handy chart we have created here.

The Pentagon Elite and Spec Elite are a little different than most of our other knives in that they have three fasteners that need to be removed in order to replace or change the clip. Also, you will need two different drivers a Torx 10 and small Phillips.

We hope this helps out and if you have more questions let us know.
