Hunter Revolver Review

Monday, January 7th, 2008

I have been in contact with the folks behind Lifesong Wilderness Adventures over the past year or so. Celeste who works with Mark the founder of Lifesong and is a Fish and Wildlife Biologist field researcher just posted a great review of the Hunter Revolver. You should go over to their site and check it out. But here is one of the better quotes from it.

Needless to say before the the first day was done, I had numerous individuals hovering ’round’ me wanting a better look at that “KNIFE”.At that point it became clear to me, I had a very useful knife that made my work much more pleasant and comfortable. Also, I best keep it close or it may make some other biologist’s day better. No thieves, just intelligent people who appreciate good equipment.

Also, while you are at it you might as well enter to win a free class from Lifesong. They are running a contest right now and one lucky person will win free tuition to the May 18th- 23rd class.

Inspired by our consulting work with Bear Grylls and Man Vs Wild, plus our own personal adventures in the wild, we created a 6 day extreme challenge course to match the adventure and excitement, for YOU.

If you thrive on personal challenges and enjoy adrenalin adventure, you’re going to love The Edge. Six intense days of wilderness survival training prepares each participant for a solo, two day, overnight adventure during camp.

Carrying only a knife, flint, canteen/cup and the clothes on your back, like Bear does during Man vs. Wild, (less the camera crew), you will face the adventure with only the skills and knowledge you gain during camp.

We’re not going to give away exactly what’s in store for you during THE EDGE, but suffice to say, it will be a challenging, exciting, and most of all, an exclusive personal adventure you won’t soon forget.

We’re so excited about offering this camp that we’re going to give ONE lucky person the opportunity to win a FREE EDGE ADVENTURE!

Tell us, in 500 to 1000 words, why you want to take this camp, and why The Edge experience will enhance your life.

The winner will attend The Edge Camp May 18-23, 2008 tuition FREE.

So get your writing skills focused and enter to win.  But there is one more thing.  I will be throwing in a knife to the winner.  I have not decided which knife yet but it will be nice one.

Hunter Revovler praise…

Friday, November 30th, 2007

I recently received this comment from Joe Norman, Whitetail Deer expert.

SOG,
I would like to personally thank you for your commitment to excellence. I have carried the SOG Revolver on every hunt I have went on. There is truly nothing that compares to the revolver. I have cut numerous limbs and small trees out of my way during stand placement and I have also cleaned one bear and five whitetail deer and the saw and knife are both as sharp as the day I got it. Every hunter needs this and it is so convienent to carry. Thanks again……

Chantrelle Mushrooms

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

One of the things I like about living in Washington is the great diversity of environments here. We have rain forest, wetlands, high desert, mountains with glaciers, and much more. I also like to get out from time to time and explore the wilderness in the area. Recently I friend of mine got the bug to figure out how to forage for chantrelle mushrooms. I know it sounds weird to go searching in the woods for mushrooms but it was quite fun.

This is a picture of the basket of mushrooms at the beginning of the day. We ended up getting a little over a pound of mushrooms and made a great dinner that night. We got a little skunked this time mostly because someone had been through the area the day before. We found tracks and some cut mushroom that had been dropped. On previous trips in the same area my friend had found upwards of 7 pounds of them.

I would highly recommend that if you get the chance to go out and forage for some chantrelle mushroom. For more information check out the following resources

SOG PowerLock images

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Jake with multi-tool.org posted some nice images on flickr comparing the SOG PowerLock wire cutter and the SwissTool. Here are his comments and some pictures.

The wire cutter on SOG’s new PowerLock is wider and has a much better edge than the wire cutter on most other multi-tools. I was able to cut lamp cord with it whereas most other multi-tools make a mess of finely stranded wire.

This photo shows the SwissTool Spirit jammed on lamp cord (right panel). I can actually suspend the SwissTool Spirit by the wire. It didn’t take a lot of force but I did have to pry the SwissTool Spirit jaws apart. It had just mashed the wires rather than cutting them (left panel). The clean ends were cut with the new SOG PowerLock.

Cutting a Bottle

Just received some images for our sales rep of him slicing a bottle in half with the Jungle Primitive. These are some great action shots.  Think you can do better than post them to the SOG flickr group.

SOG Knives photo group on Flickr

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I have just created a SOG Knives photo group on Flickr. In case you do not know what Flickr is visit here. In summary it is a site that you can post images to for the world to see. The SOG Knives group is for anyone with a SOG knife to post images to.

Get your cameras out, take some photos of your knives, and you may win something. Once every two months we will pick a photo and the person that posted the image will win a prize. I have posted some images to get everyone started.

Mini X-Ray Vision Saves the Day

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Received this nice story from a SOG user recently. It speaks to the benefits of having a quick access blade on you at all times.

I just wanted to let you know that I am a very proud owner of several of your knives. I also want you to know how one of your products came in handy in preventing some serious bodily injury for a parade participant during my vacation last week. While attending a Fourth of July parade in northern lower Michigan, I happened to be carrying my SOG Mini X-ray Vision. My family and I were viewing from near the staging/starting area. The parade is quite a quirky and fun exhibit of silliness, so there was a lot of unchoreographed behavior by the entrants. One of the entries was a group of clownishly dressed people following a minivan which had loudspeakers mounted to the roof and cans trailing behind attached with what turned out to be very sturdy nylon cord. As the group was awaiting their turn to step off, some of the clowns were walking around acting goofy and one became entangled in the cord. He didn’t realize that the cans had wrapped around his ankle and flipped back over the cord. He was standing there shaking his foot as the minivan driver began moving forward. Due to the loudspeakers and other noise, the driver was unable to hear the shouts of those witnessing it telling him to stop. I quickly covered the fifteen or so feet as I withdrew my knife, opened it, grabbed the cord, placed the serrations against it and severed it in one quick slice - just as the entangled clown was being pulled off of his feet. The van stopped just as the cord was cut. The crowd applauded as I quickly made my way back to my family and the parade went on. Although the crowd was applauding the avoidance of catastrophy, I was applauding the fine tool I had just reinserted into my pocket.

Thanks for making such fine products.
